About Me

Imogen Prince

My life was transformed 10 years ago when I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), an autoimmune disease. It gave me a new way of seeing the world as I partially lost sight in my right eye and challenged the way I related to the ‘different’ me. The fear of loss of personal identity and career aspirations was emotionally debilitating, and I was overwhelmed by the physically disabling symptoms of MS which are numerous, unpredictable, mostly invisible, and uniquely personal.

Grief accompanies an autoimmune disease diagnosis, a process that is distinct for each and every one of us. I embarked on a journey of self-discovery, never losing sight of the strong belief that no matter what, “I'll be ok”. My resiliency and passion to thrive in the face of adversity and discrimination gifted me with the awareness that creative art expression was my therapeutic tool. It gave me the freedom to proudly celebrate the vulnerability of my authentic self, to confidently redefine my life’s purpose, and to listen attentively to my intuitive wisdom.

I was driven to share the healing potential of creativity, to be a nurturing support and liberating inspiration for people living with an autoimmune disease and their communities. Hence, my identity as a trilingual multi-disciplinary artist was channelled into becoming a qualified counselling psychologist, specialising in Expressive Arts Therapy, Interpersonal Neurobiology, NLP, and Mindfulness.

From a strength-based integrative approach, I am committed to building sensitive, compassionate, therapeutic relationships with my clients, advocating for their mental health needs. In applying psychotherapeutic embodied techniques, I help my clients empower the ease of their dis-ease by learning to manage stress effectively, take control of decision-making, and experience a renewed sense of self. These are strengthened by an informed understanding of how the intricate connection between mind, body and soul has the healing potential for personal growth and positive change.

Redefining Purpose After Chronic Illness: 7 Ways to Design Your Life with Confidence

June 11, 20247 min read

In life, we often find ourselves on a journey of self-discovery and personal growth. Sometimes, we may feel stuck or unsure of where we're headed. But the good news is that we have the power to redefine and design our lives according to our own desires and dreams.

In this blog post, we'll explore seven simple steps to help you do just that, all while embracing confidence and self-assurance.

What Is Redefining Life?

Redefining life involves making intentional changes to your beliefs, priorities, and actions in order to create a new and more fulfilling path for yourself. It's about reassessing what truly matters to you, letting go of what no longer serves you, and actively shaping your life in alignment with your deepest desires and aspirations. This process may involve setting new goals, exploring different interests, pursuing personal growth, and cultivating a greater sense of purpose and authenticity.

Ultimately, redefining life is about embracing change and embracing the opportunity to create a life that reflects your true values and passions. This journey often mirrors the transformative process of holistic therapy for autoimmune disease support or expressive arts therapy for autoimmune diseases, where you work through personal growth and healing.

The Importance of Redefining Your Life

Redefining your life is like giving yourself a fresh start—a chance to rewrite your story and create a life that truly resonates with who you are. It's important because it allows you to break free from old patterns, beliefs, and limitations that may be holding you back from living your best life.

Moreover, redefining your life empowers you to live authentically and in alignment with your true self. When you take the time to reflect on what truly matters to you and make changes accordingly, you're honoring your values and honoring your own needs. This is similar to emotional empowerment for women with autoimmune conditions, where reclaiming your health and identity leads to a greater sense of control and self-assurance.

Moving Forward with Confidence and Clarity

Moving forward with confidence and clarity is all about taking intentional steps towards the life you want to create. It means leaving behind doubts and uncertainties and embracing a sense of purpose and direction. By setting clear goals and making plans to achieve them, you can move forward with confidence, knowing that you're taking control of your destiny.

Moreover, moving forward with confidence and clarity allows you to overcome obstacles and challenges along the way. Instead of feeling overwhelmed or discouraged by setbacks, you can approach them with resilience and determination. This mirrors the journey of self-empowerment seen in people overcoming chronic illness, where every small victory contributes to overall emotional wellness and mental clarity.

7 Ways To Redefine And Design Your Life

Redefining and designing your life is a powerful journey of self-discovery and personal growth. Here are seven transformative steps to help you embark on this empowering path toward a more fulfilling and purpose-driven life.

1. Reflect on Your Values and Priorities:

Start by taking some quiet time for introspection. Reflect on what truly matters to you in life—your core values, beliefs, passions, and interests. Consider what brings you joy and fulfillment, as well as what you aspire to achieve.

By gaining clarity on your values and priorities, you can align your actions and decisions with what resonates deeply with your heart and soul. This self-awareness forms the foundation for redefining and designing a life that is authentic and meaningful to you. This process is similar to the healing journey of those undergoing expressive arts therapy for emotional healing for chronic illness, helping you reconnect with your authentic self.

2. Set Inspiring Goals:

Once you've identified your values and priorities, translate them into inspiring goals that reflect your aspirations. What do you envision for your personal and professional life? Set specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals that align with your values and priorities.

Break down your goals into smaller, manageable steps, and create a plan to work towards them consistently. Setting goals not only provides you with a sense of direction and purpose but also motivates you to take action towards creating the life you desire. Think of this process as creating a mind-body connection therapy for autoimmune diseases, where the right goals align body, mind, and spirit for healing.

3. Embrace Self-Love and Acceptance:

As you embark on your journey of self-redefinition, it's essential to cultivate a deep sense of self-love and acceptance. Acknowledge your strengths, celebrate your achievements, and embrace your unique qualities. Practice self-compassion and kindness towards yourself, especially during challenging times.

Remember that you are inherently worthy and deserving of love and happiness, just as you are. By nurturing a positive relationship with yourself, you lay the groundwork for building confidence, resilience, and a strong sense of self-worth. This mirrors the emotional empowerment in women’s wellness for autoimmune conditions, where self-acceptance fuels confidence and overall health.

4. Step Out of Your Comfort Zone:

Growth and transformation often thrive beyond the confines of our comfort zones. Challenge yourself to step outside of familiar territory and embrace new experiences and opportunities for growth. Whether it's trying a new hobby, enrolling in a course, or pursuing a career change, be willing to take calculated risks and embrace the unknown.

Each step you take outside of your comfort zone expands your horizons and brings you closer to discovering your true potential. Embrace discomfort as a sign of growth and welcome the opportunity to explore new possibilities and avenues for self-discovery. This approach is akin to managing isolation while living with an autoimmune disease, where stepping outside the comfort zone is crucial for emotional growth.

5. Cultivate a Positive Mindset:

Adopting a positive mindset lays the foundation for building confidence and resilience as you redefine your life. Challenge negative self-talk and limiting beliefs that may hinder your progress. Instead, focus on the possibilities and opportunities that lie ahead, and cultivate an attitude of gratitude for the blessings in your life.

Surround yourself with positive influences, whether it's uplifting affirmations, inspiring role models, or supportive friends and family members who encourage and motivate you on your journey. Just as you would nurture a holistic care approach for chronic disease, positivity nurtures your mental clarity and overall health.

6. Practice Persistence and Resilience:

Along your journey of self-redefinition, you'll inevitably encounter obstacles and setbacks. The key is to approach these challenges with persistence and resilience. Rather than viewing setbacks as roadblocks, see them as opportunities for growth and learning.

Stay committed to your goals, and be willing to adapt and course-correct as needed. Remember that every setback is a stepping stone towards success, and each challenge you overcome strengthens your resilience and determination to achieve your dreams. This process mirrors arts therapy for emotional growth, where persistence and resilience are key to long-term healing.

7. Seek Support and Guidance:

Don't hesitate to reach out for support and guidance as you navigate the twists and turns of your journey. Surround yourself with mentors, coaches, friends, and family members who believe in you and your potential. Seek out role models who inspire you, and learn from their experiences and insights.

Remember, you don't have to navigate this journey alone—there's strength in community and collaboration. By seeking support and guidance, you can gain valuable perspectives, encouragement, and resources to help you stay focused and motivated on your path to redefining and designing your life. Consider seeking support through therapy options for women facing challenges like identity loss in autoimmune disease recovery.

Conclusion

Redefining and designing your life with confidence is an empowering journey of self-discovery and personal growth. By reflecting on your values, setting inspiring goals, embracing self-love, stepping out of your comfort zone, cultivating a positive mindset, practicing persistence, and seeking support, you can create a life that aligns with your true desires and aspirations. Embrace the journey with confidence and courage, knowing that you have the power to create a life that brings you joy, fulfillment, and purpose.
